What is it like being an actor?

Almost all acting work is freelance and short-term and few actors are in full-time ongoing positions. Drama schools are only too aware of the glamour which is associated with the acting profession, but prospective students need to understand the realities of being an actor. This is not just a career, but a lifestyle, and one which can involve much rejection, frustration and poverty, as well as creativity, recognition and satisfaction. Ask yourself if you are the kind of person who can do without job security and a set routine.
